What's on this page: Primary Sources Secondary Sources Primary sources are responsible for collecting and maintaining up-to-date data. However, the usual raw tabular formats are hard to read or use. Data definitions vary substantially from one country to the next. Primary sources also are the places to go for exact definitions and measurement techniques. Secondary sources repackage primary-source, often by standardizing definitions across many countries for the purpose of comparison. Secondary sources also sometimes permit selection of individual series.
