MANGUM, Willie Person, was born in Orange county, N. C., in 1792, and died at Red Mountain, N. C., Sept. 14, 1861. He was a representative in congress from North Carolina 1823-6, and United States senator 1831-6 and 1840-53. In 1836 he received the electoral vote of South Carolina for the presidency.
