As you may have noticed, we're changing the Econlib Design. The design changes involve the Econlib logo, color scheme, and navigation bars. These changes are being set in place for most pages as of July 15, 2002; but, for some website areas and pages, the changes will propagate over the next few months.
Importantly: We are changing no prior URLs, and we have removed no features with which you've become familiar. We're just changing some visual and behind-the-scenes elements to modernize the site's look and make it consistent in anticipation of our planned future expansions.
What's still here:
All the featured columns are continuing as before. Our current schedule is still once every three weeks.
Additions to the Books section also are continuing as usual. All the books you have previously enjoyed are still here. No URLs have been changed, so if you link to them, there's nothing you have to change.
What's new:
You can now search our Card Catalog. The Card Catalog is a data base of all of our online books, including standard publication information (publisher, city, publication date, etc.). Information is organized in the table format familiar to library users, and includes links to the book itself and a Book Search for that book. Many additional features are also offered. For example, you can search our online books by author or title; and also by things like keywords (any words used in the text), date of first publication, publisher, etc. You can sort your results by things like author, title, date of first publication, and in some cases, rank (i.e., the Score assigned by a Site Search), etc. To move quickly among the various Search Engines, go to our Search Overview Page. For more information on the differences, see the Help Page.
We have so many books available now on Econlib that our Drop-Down Book List in the Book Search has gotten unwieldy. We're gradually eliminating some books from that list. All these books can still be searched! We've added a selection in the Drop-Down List for "Search a Book Not On the List". If you select that option, you'll be directed to our new Card Catalog Search, with instructions to find your book there and then click the Search Book button for that book.
Our Quote of the Day now also includes Birthday announcements on the birthdates of over 100 renowned economists plus a few other famous scientists, thinkers, and authors. Want to wish Kenneth Arrow or Jim Buchanan a Happy Birthday? Want to know if today is the anniversary of Bastiat's birth? Want to find out who was born on your own birthday? Check out the Quote of the Day regularly.
