Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy “Jimbo” Wales made the cover of Reason. I immediately remembered our protracted debate on Ayn Rand’s meta-ethics on the Association for Systematic Philosphy‘s listserv (set up by the other Wikipedia co-founder, Larry Sanger) way back in the mid-’90’s. (Here’s the only remnant of our exchange I can still find). Who knew earnest philosophical debate could lead to such worldly success? 🙂

I remember Jimmy Wales from his “Moderated Discussion of Objectivist Philosophy” days…
I am not surprised that he has done so well..

“Asking someone to define “yellow” is
pointless…”
And yet, that’s exactly what Jimbo made happen…
“Yellow is the color evoked by light that stimulates both the L and M (long- and medium-wavelength) cone cells of the retina about equally, but does not significantly stimulate the S (short-wavelength) cone cells;”

And I remember Jimbo from arguments on humanities.philosophy.objectivism, where he was almost the only Objectivist to understand the anarcho-capitalist position well enough to offer a relevant criticism of it; my response is still on my web page.
