Comment Policy for EconLog and EconTalk

Thank you to everyone who comments at EconLog and EconTalk. We appreciate the time our readers and listeners spend to share ideas and give feedback.

EconLog and EconTalk are committed to providing a civilized space for rational debate and discussion. Dissent is welcomed. However, we also want our comments to be as useful as possible to our readers and contributors.

Please leave comments that are respectful, germane, and useful. Comments are required to address the substance and content of the original posts, podcast episodes, or discussion threads.

While we keep most comments online, we remain a moderated platform, and we will remove the following:

Rude or Harassing comments: All comments need to be respectful toward our contributors, those leaving comments, and others being discussed. Profanity is not allowed. Rudeness, obscenities, crude language, name-calling, ad hominem remarks, engaging in flame wars, repeating the same points over and over in every comment instead of making new points, monopolizing comment threads, or posting rants devoid of relevant discussion may result in your having your comment removed, delayed, receiving a warning email, or being banned.

Anonymous comments: We do not accept anonymous comments.  Nicknames, pseudonyms, etc. are permitted. We only accept comments from people who identify themselves via a valid email address. Your email address is not used to send you any mass mailings or sold to any outside sources. See our Privacy Policy here.

Promotional comments: If a comment is solely promotional in nature, we will remove it from the site. Material that appears elsewhere and is repeated or pasted in its entirety to EconLog or EconTalk is deemed to be spam and is a bannable offense. All spam will be removed.

We reserve the right to remove any comments from the site and to suspend commenting privileges to individuals in violation of our policy. We send explanatory emails in place of comments that violate our policies.  No one is banned for relevant content or point of view. Commenters are not banned without notification.
