Update: Notice that Somin takes this discussion to an historic high. As far as I know, he’s my first critic to actually name and argue against a specific premise in my argument for pacifism.

That’s a bit unfair, Dr. Caplan. In your various posts on the subject, many commenters have specifically identified and disputed your premises as well.

@Jack – if you are referring to commenters like us, I’m not sure we count.
Regarding the talk in general, Being an unreformed Rothbardian, I found myself without a real dog in the fight. However, Mr. Somin’s defense of the Iraq war gave me serious pause to wonder how he defines the label “libertarian”. What of the “anti-aggression” principle? Objection to central planning of the economic lives of foreign peoples? Repulsion at being subject to military rule with little or no procedural protection against abuse? Disgust with summary execution of civilians from hundreds of feet above for suspicion of being the enemy? If nothing else, how about a little skepticism of Government Abroad?
