Tomorrow, Monday, I will be speaking at San Jose State University, as part of SJSU’s David S. Saurman Provocative Lecture Series.
Title of talk: Popular Misconceptions about Income Inequality
Time: 5:15 p.m.
Place: New Student Union Theater
My talk will be between 40 and 50 minutes long. (Still working on it, and so can’t estimate exactly.) Q&A will go about 30 minutes or so.
“Free,” that is, zero-price, pizza and beer afterward. I went to Phil Magness’s talk in October and the pizza was the best I’ve had in years.

I knew Dave Saurman from his days on the economics faculty at Auburn. I was a grad student and my apartment in Auburn was across the street from Dave and Marcia Saurman’s townhouse. They were very good neighbors. While I never had Dave in class, I remember fondly the many water-cooler and coffee-room conversations that I had with him. He was a fine economist.
His 1988 book (Advertising and the Market Process) with his and my teacher, Bob Ekelund, is superb.

I talked to him a few times when he guest taught for us at the Navy school. He told me he called himself “the economist of sin.” I gather that a lot of his writing was on cigarettes and alcohol.

Is a recording of this available somewhere? Also, are these free to attend for the general public? I noticed that David Friedman was also a guest speaker… what a shame that I missed both.
