Vipul Naik has just opened the virtual doors of his Open Borders website. The idea is to bring together the best philosophical and economic arguments for free migration, including a few by yours truly. (I’m honored to be quoted on the masthead). This is a perfect website for would-be debaters to hone their thinking on the most important issue of our time.

What’s there to debate on a site where the ‘right’ answer is in its very title? Will debating immigration on that site be any different than the debates on socialism on DailyKos?

Hi Leo,
I just fixed a couple of broken links/missing pages on the website, so it is possible that the errors you found have already been corrected.

Nyk, I think what Bryan means is that the site contains a wide range of arguments for AND against open borders. Those who want to debate on either side of the issue can therefore use the site to get a quick idea of both sides’ arguments. He did not mean to say that the site itself is a host for debates.
The site itself is not participatory. But you can leave anonymous feedback if you think the anti-open borders arguments have not been represented correctly.

Nyk, I think what Bryan meant was that the site provides a wide range of arguments both for AND against open borders. Those who are preparing to debate the topic on either side could benefit by going through the list of arguments (and counter-arguments) on both sides.
It seems you got the impression that the site itself is meant to host debates. That is not the goal of the site, at least as of now.
It’s possible that my own bias towards open borders came in the way of fairly presenting one or more of the arguments against open borders. If you think that any of the arguments against open borders has not been fairly represented, you can report that at the feedback page (or, more specifically, at the survey on proper treatment of objections.
I hope that addresses some of your concerns. Let me know if you have more.

What if my feedback is that your assumptions exist in an academic fantasy land that doesn’t pass even five seconds of basic common sense about reality on the ground, but since your committed to your position since it personally benefits yourself there is really no point in “debate” and the “debate” is actually just a sophisticated circle jerk of pretend thinking through the other sides arguments and exercise in propaganda.

Thank you for the criticism. I think I have covered similar criticisms here. I know you’ve already devoted considerable effort in sharing your critique, so it would be unfair to ask more of you. But I really would appreciate it if you let me know what you think of my presentation of this line of criticism.
